Our Guide for Hiring the Right Skip

If you’ve been working on any household or garden projects lately, you may need to hire a skip to dispose of the waste. Often, the amount of waste these projects create can be surprising and hiring a skip involves making several important decisions.

You need to know what size skip to order, how long you’re going to need it for and how much you’re prepared to spend on it. You may also require a permit if the skip is going to be on public land. These things may seem daunting, especially if you’ve never hired a skip before, so we’ve put together a guide to help you.

Skip Size

Choosing the right size skip is probably the most crucial decision. Overestimate the size, and you’ll end up paying more than you need to. Underestimate the size, and you’ll have to order another skip which will cost you more money as well as additional time and stress. Have a look below at the list of sizes you can hire from us.

Mini skip (2-yard³ skip) – This is the smallest skip we offer and it’s ideal if you have a narrow driveway. It’s generally used for small amounts of household or garden waste and can hold approximately 22 black bags worth of rubbish.

Midi skip (4-yard³ skip) – This is a popular type of skip that’s generally used for old bathroom and kitchen fitments but is also good for medium amounts of household and garden waste. These skips can hold approximately 45 black bags worth of rubbish and some of our midi skips have front doors for easy loading.

Builders skip (6-yard³ skip) – This type of skip is very popular for building waste such as concrete, rubble and soil but is also good for medium amounts of general household waste. These skips can hold approximately 70 black bags worth of rubbish and some of our builders skips have drop doors for quick and easy access.

8-yard³ skip – This is a good skip choice for house clearances and larger loads of household waste. It is also frequently used by builders for light waste. These skips can hold approximately 80 black bags worth of rubbish.

10-yard³ skip & 12-yard³ skip – These are the skips to select for bulky items and large amounts of light to medium waste. They would typically be used for big house clearances and larger amounts of garden or builders’ waste. These skips can hold approximately 120 & 140 black bags worth of rubbish, respectively.

Custom skip – Larger skips are also available. Please call us on 01823 664628 or email enquiries@wellingtonwaste.co.uk to enquire.
